What is Physiotherapy?
Physiotherapy is a medical field which aims to ease pain, increase mobility or restore function through movement, manual therapy and exercise. It is suitable for adults and children alike, from the very young to the very elderly. It is sometimes used in conjunction with other treatments, including surgery and medication, but is often used as a sole treatment.
How does physiotherapy work?
Physiotherapists use a wide range of techniques, including exercise and manual manipulation to treat illness, injury and disability. They adjust the treatment plan to suit the individual which can therefore help both very serious and complex cases as well as, simple injuries.
Often focussed on relieving pain or regaining function, physiotherapy is also used to improve movement, flexibility and maintain or regain function and mobility. Most people have an initial assessment which includes treatment and then the number of sessions and the frequency of visits will be determined by your needs.
